Privacy Policy
Last updated: December 2025
TL;DR: devPad collects absolutely no data. Zero telemetry. Zero analytics. Everything stays on your device.
1. Overview
devPad ("the App") is developed by JT ("we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our data practices for the devPad application available on macOS.
devPad is designed with a strict "zero data collection" philosophy. We do not collect, store, transmit, or process any personal information or usage data.
2. Information We Collect
None.
devPad does not collect any information from you or your device, including but not limited to:
- Personal identification information
- Usage statistics or analytics
- Crash reports or diagnostics
- Device identifiers
- Location data
- Browsing history within the app
- Files you open or create
- Code, snippets, or notes you save
- API requests you make
- AI conversations (local or cloud)
- There is a bug and feature request reporting form, using FormSpark, if the user wants to send information to the developers. Limited system info (OS Version etc), is optional
3. Data Storage
All data created within devPad (bookmarks, snippets, settings, workspaces, browsing history) is stored locally on your device only. This data is managed by macOS within the app's sandboxed container and is never transmitted to us or any third party.
4. Third-Party Services
AI Chat Features
devPad supports optional AI chat functionality through:
- Local LLMs (Ollama, LM Studio) — runs entirely on your machine
- Cloud APIs — only if you choose to configure your own API keys
If you use cloud AI services with your own API keys, your conversations are sent directly to those providers (e.g., OpenAI). We do not have access to these conversations. Please review the privacy policies of any third-party AI services you choose to use.
Web Browsing
devPad includes a built-in web browser. When you visit websites, you interact directly with those websites. We do not intercept, log, or transmit your browsing activity.
5. App Store & Apple
devPad is distributed through the Mac App Store. Apple may collect certain information as described in their privacy policy. This is independent of devPad and governed by Apple's terms. devPad itself does not receive any data from Apple about your usage.
6. App Sandbox
devPad operates within Apple's App Sandbox, the strictest security and privacy standard for macOS applications. This means:
- The app can only access files you explicitly grant permission to
- Network access is limited to user-initiated requests
- The app cannot access other applications' data
- All app data is isolated in a secure container
File Access
When you use features like Quick File, devPad asks you to select a folder using the standard macOS file picker. This grants the app permission to access only that specific folder—nothing else. devPad remembers your choice using a secure system feature called "security-scoped bookmarks," so you don't have to re-select the folder every time you open the app. You can change or revoke this folder selection at any time from within the app.
7. Children's Privacy
devPad does not collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. Since we collect no data, there are no special provisions needed for children's privacy.
8. Data Security
Since we collect no data, there is no data to secure on our end. Your local data is protected by macOS security features and the App Sandbox.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Our commitment to collecting zero data will not change.
10. Your Rights
Under various privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you have rights regarding your personal data. Since devPad collects no personal data, these rights are automatically satisfied:
- Right to Access: There is no data to access
- Right to Deletion: There is no data to delete
- Right to Portability: Your local data is already yours
- Right to Opt-Out: There is no tracking to opt out of
